Launching Just Enough Room for Christmas, I did some things totally new and way out of my comfort zone: publicist and podcasts.
Choosing a publicist was easy - Melissa Taylor (Imagination Soup - ) writes a blog I follow - Imagination Soup. She also manages publicity and launches. Done.
She gave me excellent advice on upgrading the things I was sort of half-heartedly doing already - like posting and sharing. And she connected me with Podcasters!
Always before, nice bloggers or reviewers would send me questions, and I would answer them and send a headshot. Fortunately, I had thought to get one a couple of years ago.
Podcasters are excited to invite authors to appear on YouTube alongside them, side by side, on screen. Live on the screen. Not even a Fuzzy Filter.
One I did with Storytellers Shelf Podcast. My interview is in the September section.
The idea is they ask questions (they sent a list ahead of time) and the author answers them. The trick is - the questions are not usually about the book! The program is not a 45-minute commercial. They want to discuss something of general interest to writers or readers, or parents. And even though I am all three of those, I could not imagine what I would say for that long! (For contrast, my sermons are about 7 minutes, and Storytimes function in 2–3-minute chunks.)
The hosts were amazing - it felt like a conversation over coffee. I am delighted that I managed not to say “like” or “um”! They also edited the recording and added tons of ways on their website for how to use it.
There are lots of good podcasts out there - here is a teaser Storyteller’s Shelf made. teaser for podcast
New is GOOD!
Enjoy the podcast? Robin Currie would appreciate a review of Just Enough Room for Christmas at Just Enough Room for Christmas reviews. Thanks!
